Game 4 - AFC Strikers (1) - MAYAA Cyclones (6)

The Strikers suffered their first defeat of the season. Ryan scored the lone goal for the Strikers. I think that Katherine and Ryan were able to touch each goal that went in. That is a great effort in helping their team.

Hey Strikers! Hold them Heads Up. You played well against a very good team.

    2. A team can score a ‘touch-down’ (6 points) if they pass the ball to a team-mate standing in the end-zone.
      1. Extra Point = corner one touch
    3. Advance the game by not allowing any player to stand still in the end-zone, or then limit access to the zone to 3 seconds at a time for any player.
  5. Get out of here  (http://www.regioniv.com/coaching/u9.htm)
      1. Two teams in a line stand either side of the coach (standing on the half way line with all the balls).
      2. Name them team France and team Brazil!
      3. Play 2v2 in a 15 x 20 area (or 3v3 in 20x30) grid to 2 yard goals, with the first 2 from each side coming out as soon as the coach puts a ball on the field.
      4. The coach is boss of the balls! Introduce penalty for encroaching!
      5. When a goal is scored or the ball goes out of play, the coach shouts ‘Get out of here!’ and the players have to go to the back of their line.
      6. As soon as the coach yells, he can put another ball on the field for the next two players from each team to play.
      7. The game is continuous till the coach has no balls left. He can then ask the players what they can do to rectify the situation…They will soon collect all the balls back!
  6. Scrimmage
    1. Small goals
      1. Short field

Game 3 - AFC Strikers (7) - USA Davis (3)

The CMAA AFC U10 Strikers traveled to Urbana and had a great match.
Urbana scored first and the Strikers woke up after that goal. Jaik opened the scoring at 4 and 24 minutes, followed by Ryan at the 25th minute to finish the half at 3 to 1. Kenny had a few great saves to keep it at 1 goal. Kenny was last to touch the ball before Urbana had an own goal at 27 minutes. Jaik topped of his 2nd hat trick of the season at the 33rd minute. Micky went ahead and added two goals at 38 and 40 minutes. Urbana had 2 excellent goals (one against Ryan and one against Katherine) and the final score was 7 to 3.

Game 2 - AFC Strikers (6) - CRC Evans (6)

It was the story of 2 games (played at once) and 12 goals.

First half was Strikers 5 to CRC Evans 0.

  • Jaik had a hat trick (scored 3 goals in one match), 1st of this season and the 2nd game where a Striker had a hat trick.
  • Ryan had 2 goals.
  • Micky had 1 goal.
  • Kenny had golden hands of magnetism in the first half and kept the defense solid.
  • Abigail and Kristen are turning out to be the Dynamic Duo of Defense (when not chatting :) ).
  • Katherine had some tremendous defensive midfield play and provided some good stopping action on the opponents.
  • James played hard out there and got a few bumps to prove it.
  • Marilyn got in and hustled for a few minutes to help some of the others team mates get a break.
  • Kelvin, still with the number 8 of Stinton (we did this to confuse the opponents, nope, new shirt wasn't in yet) came in a little late but got into the mix and helped his team out.
  • I moved some players around to even out the game and for players to have game-experience in various positions.

Half-time notes.

  • The Strikers were proud of their efforts on the field in the first half.
  • Coming off of the field at half-time, some of the Strikers were over-confident thinking the results would be 18-0 at the end of the game.
  • The game was progressing nicely, however, the opponents were starting to find their groove and looked like it would be a different second half.

The Second Half was much different that the first.

  • Final score was 6 to 6
  • Having limited subs was a major factor in the match.

Items to work on

  1. Kick off routine
    1. We gave the ball away at least twice due to incorrect kick off.
    2. Hopefully, with practice, this will be the last time.
  2. Restarts
    1. We need to get the restarts taken quicker.
      1. Throw Ins
      2. Corner Kicks
      3. Goal Kicks
      4. Free Kicks
  3. Free Kicks
    1. We need to work on positioning of the plays
      1. Offensive
      2. Defensive
  4. Communication
    1. Get them heads up
    2. Look
    3. Talk

Lessons learned

  1. A 5-0 score at half-time can be overcome by hard work and determination.
  2. Play the whole game.
    1. Don't stop at half-time
  3. Play as a team

Game 1 - AFC Strikers (5) - WMAA (0)

The AFC Strikers first game was a fabulous match. After the longest drive of the season to Wolfesville Elementary School, the team showed that they had the drive and spunk to play on a LARGE field.

If I remember correctly, Ryan broke the goal scoring ice for the Strikers. The score was 1-0 at half time and the team was up-beat. Kenny, after having a few great saves in the first half, and Katherine switched goalkeeping duties.

Jaik had his first goal of the season and the Strikers 2nd to make the score 2-0. Then, Kenny struck. He was on fire, scoring his the Striker's and his first HAT TRICK. Kenny scored 3 brilliant goals in about 5 minutes. A joy to watch. The WMAA goalkeeper had some great saves to keep the score at the 5-0 final score.

Everybody had an impact on the game. Kelvin showed up with shinguards, we were happy and I am sure that his legs were as well. Abigail and Kristen were solid defensive anchors and had a bit too much fun chatting :). Jaik, Kenny, Mickey, James and Ryan were knocking on the goal quite a few times. Marilyn and Harrison played some solid mid-field defense. Katherine ended up the second half with some great distributions to her attackers.

Great time!
